Riverside Living, A Success for Rotherham

Riverside Living, A Success for Rotherham

Rotherham Borough Council and Liverpool-based developer Iliad are delighted with the success of the riverside apartments just completed in the centre of the South Yorkshire town.

The council appointed Iliad in 2005 to develop the £37m All Saints Quarter, a mix of residential, retail and leisure space, and carry out a number of high-quality public-space improvements.

The first phase, now complete, consists of the beautifully restored Imperial Buildings, award-winning Old Market and, most recently, Keppel Wharf.

Letting the apartments has proven to be a booming success – 15 of the 19 in Imperial Buildings are occupied and all 44 apartments in Old Market are gone.

Iliad director Bill Addy said: We have been extremely pleased with the take-up of these apartments. In Rotherham we are fortunate as they are a first for the town centre. Keppel Wharf has only just completed but, with the enquiries received already – and with seven of the 53 already sold – we expect the development to be fully occupied by Christmas. With the national housing market as it is at the moment, we could not be more pleased with our investment in Rotherham town centre.

The river-view apartments include beautifully specified one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and stunning penthouses, all incorporating contemporary-design fitted kitchens and luxurious bathrooms.

From the balconies and terraces, residents can enjoy the spectacular river views, Minster and, in the far distance, even the glorious Peak District.

The apartments superb location, with their excellent links to the M1 close to the bus interchange and soon to be redeveloped railway station, makes them ideal for owner-occupiers, office workers and investors alike.

The councils Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Planning and Transportation, Cllr Gerald Smith, said: These apartments are achieving just what we hoped – people who work in the town centre now live in the town centre.

Not only that but we are attracting business people and young executives from Sheffield to live in Rotherham for its easy transport links to their work in Sheffield city centre and on the Templeborough Corridor – expected to be helped further by the recently-announced new tram-train service that will link Rotherham and Sheffield. And we know that the new residents will also boost the town centre economy – something vital to ensure its vibrancy.

Ground floor retail space is also starting to see a boost with four retailers starting fit out next month to Imperial Buildings in time for opening for the Christmas Shopping period.
