Bond Bryan Architects receive planning permission for Rotherham College of Art and Technology
The new RCAT building will have many sustainable features including a hybrid ventilation system with heat recovery, rainwater recovery systems, solar photovoltaic panels and solar thermal panels, leading-edge waste disposal systems and materials used from sustainable sources.
Paul Holden, associate director from Bond Bryan, says: "The college is a landmark building within Rotherham, designed to inspire and motivate students and spark the interest of local people and employers in Further Education, training and skills development.
"We have designed a flexible, welcoming and fully accessible building that will provide both a suitable range of facilities for current needs and enable the college to respond to changing patterns of curriculum demand due to increasing number of students.
"The new-build campus is a distinctive and striking modern design sitting within an enhanced landscaped setting linking to Rotherham's renaissance strategy."
Work on RCAT will be in two phases and is due to start in June 2009, with the second phase beginning in 2011. The project will be completed in 2013.
