A Wonderland of Christmas Events in Rotherham
To complement the highly-praised new illuminations, the events, which include the return of real reindeer and a lantern parade, will be filling Rotherham town centre with fun, joy and light.
Starting the fun on Saturday December 13, two of Santa's reindeer will be paying a visit to Rotherham before getting ready for their busiest night of the year.
The real-live reindeer will be making a very special return trip to the borough, starting at 12.45pm where they will be pulling Santa's sleigh around the town centre before they settle in the Outdoor Market between 1pm - 3pm .
The friendly reindeer will be meeting children and adults alike, but don't forget to be good, they'll be reporting back to their boss!
Following Rudolph and Prancer, starting Monday December 15, Frosty the inflatable Snowman will be bouncing his way back to the town centre to give kids extremely active festive fun.
The inflatable favourite will be spending the run-up to Christmas behind the Big Screen in All Saints' Square. Staying in place until Wednesday December 24, Frosty will be open Monday - Saturday 11am until 6pm , Sunday 11am - 4pm and Christmas Eve 11am - 2.30pm .
He will also be ready for action until 7pm on Thursday December 18 for the Winter Lantern Procession event.
The aforementioned Lantern Parade, which will see dozens of children light-up the town centre with specially created lanterns, will begin at 6pm and will see the festive revellers singing traditional Christmas songs as they bring joy to the town centre.
After bringing cheer to Rotherham , the group, which shoppers and visitors to the town centre are welcome to join, will head over to the Minster for a special, traditional carol service.
Events & Promotions Officer Dawn Campbell said of the celebrations: "We're continuing the theme of a traditional Christmas in Rotherham town centre with these wonderful festive events. They'll complement the new illuminations perfectly.
"The reindeer are always incredibly popular and give children and adults alike the opportunity to get close to these magical and friendly animals. It's great to have them back, the same with Frosty, who has had a well-earned rest the past couple of years, but is now back and ready to bring fun to the town centre.
"The event I'm most looking forward to is the Winter Lantern Procession, it's going to look absolutely wonderful. The children have put so much effort into creating these beautiful lanterns to help illuminate the streets and have practised all their carols.
"They'll also be handing out spare song sheets along the way to any bypassers in case they want to join in the fun.
"It will make Christmas in Rotherham complete."
