New Tesco Extra store for Rotherham

Rotherham Town Centre - New Tesco Extra Store

The new town centre £40m Tesco Extra development opened its doors in November 2014 on the site of the former Civic Building and Central Library. The new store has created a total of 450 jobs (200 full time and 250 part time) with a proportion of vacancies filled through Tesco's "Regeneration Partnership" which, in partnership with the local Job Centre Plus, ensured a number of jobs were reserved for long term unemployed people.

The store also includes a petrol station and 540 parking spaces.

Contractors ISG commenced demolition of the buildings in 2013 and extensive upgrades and improvements were made to the road and traffic networks to accommodate visitors to the store and the town centre, including the removal of the Effingham Street flyover and a new road junction between Drummond Street and Centenary Way.
