Rotherham Renaissance
The focus is on new high-quality retail, leisure, office and residential space complimented by many schemes already under way to improve health, leisure, civic, and transport facilities.
Regional Development Agency, Yorkshire Forward, launched the Renaissance programme in 2001 to revitalise towns and cities right across the region – and Rotherham's people, businesses, Borough Council and organisations responded with an ambitious package of projects.
Renaissance is about reinforcing pride in our towns. It's about re-thinking what towns such as Rotherham should be achieving for their people – and that’s better jobs, homes, shops, public spaces, leisure facilities... quality of life.
More than £2bn will be spent on the renaissance of the town centre over the next 15-20 years, most of it from the private sector. This once-in-a-lifetime level of investment will transform the town centre for generations to come.
The vision builds on the town’s rich cultural, social and architectural history, but with a new focus on a revitalised waterfront of river and canal frontages making Rotherham a place we can all be even more proud of.
